A keen contest is on the cards in the September 13 by-election to the prestigious Medak Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana as the ruling TRS, Congress, and TDP-BJP alliance candidates filed their nominations on Wednesday.

BJP today sprang a surprise by fielding former Congress MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy as its candidate as he joined the saffron party today.Jayaprakash Reddy, popularly known as Jagga Reddy, was with BJP earlier. He is supported by BJP's alliance partner TDP in the by-election, necessitated by the resignation of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao after he became the Chief Minister. Medak is Rao's home district.

Reddy has been a bitter critic of the TRS. Congress announced former minister Sunita Laxma Reddy as its candidate.

The ruling TRS has already named K Prabhakar Reddy, a businessman, as its nominee. The candidates of TDP-BJP, Congress, and TRS filed their nominations on the last day on Wednesday.
