A city-bound luxury bus from Bengaluru today went up in flames but nobody was injured in the incident, police said.

The Karnatka government bus was enroute Chennai when the driver noticed fire in the vehicle's rear, following which he stopped the bus before all of its occupants got down, police said.

Fire-tenders from Poonamallee, Maduravoyal and Koyambedu were rushed to douse the fire, but the flames had gutted the entire vehicle by then, they added.

The cause of the fire was being ascertained, police said.

The incident happened at Nazarethpet near here, affecting traffic movement on the busy Chennai-Bengaluru national highway for about an hour.
