An Army jawan, allegedly involved in the Bulandshahr mob violence in which a cop was among two killed, was detained by his unit in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday even as his brother claimed that he was being framed.

Jitendra Malik alias Jeetu Fauji was detained by the 22 Rashtriya Rifles in Sopore town, an IANS report citing Army sources said.

His brother Dharmendra Malik, also a soldier, claimed that Jitendra had nothing to do with the violence and he has evidence to prove it.

"My brother is being framed in some conspiracy, he's not involved in the killing of Inspector. I have evidence to prove that my brother wasn't present at the site where the incident took place. I request Chief Minister (Yogi Adityanath) to help me," Dharmendra said.

Jeetu alias Fauji of Mahav village is a named accused in the first information report (FIR) lodged at Siyana police station on December 4 for his alleged involvement in the mob violence and for the murder of police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh on Monday.

Jeetu, an alias of Jeetendra Malik, is named as the 11th suspect in the FIR. A UP police team was sent to Jammu on Friday to arrest Malik.

Inspector General (Crime) S K Bhagat told reporters in Lucknow that according to preliminary information, he is posted in Jammu and a police team has been sent there.

Army has assured cooperation in the case. "If there is some evidence and police feels that they suspect him, then we will produce him before them. We will fully cooperate with police," Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat told reporters on Saturday.

Army sources in Delhi said on Friday that the police have contacted the Northern Command and were being given fullest cooperation.

IG Crime SK Bhagat said five more arrests have been made in connection with Inspector Subodh Singh's death, taking the number of those arrested to nine.

The inspector and 20-year-old Sumit were killed when a mob attacked policemen after cattle carcasses were found in the fields on December 3.

Bhagat said the five people, who were arrested, were identified as Chandra, Rohit, Sonu, Nitin and Jitendra. He said their names were not mentioned in the FIR lodged in connection with the inspector's murder.

They were arrested on the basis of video footage and eyewitness accounts, and police teams were conducting raids to make more arrests, the IG said.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government Saturday transferred Bulandshahr SSP Krishna Bahadur Singh to the DGP office in Lucknow.

Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar said that the Senior Superintendent of Police will be replaced by Sitapur SP Prabhakar Chaudhary.

The government transferred two other policemen of Bulandshahr -- Circle Officer Syana Satya Prakash Sharma and Chingravati police chowki in-charge Suresh Kumar.
