The three-week session will feature Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting her seventh consecutive budget for the year 2024-25
The Budget Session of Parliament begins today, Monday. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc is set to protest over various issues, including a recent controversy in Uttar Pradesh. The three-week session will feature Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting her seventh consecutive budget for the year 2024-25. Today, Sitharaman will also present the Economic Survey.
At an all-party meeting on July 21, the Congress party insisted that several issues be discussed during the session. These include the controversy related to the NEET-UG exam, an order from the Uttar Pradesh government about eateries during the Kanwar Yatra, and the internal security situation in Jammu-Kashmir and Manipur.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, earlier stated that Gaurav Gogoi, the party's deputy leader in Lok Sabha, highlighted many governance issues needing attention. These include the NEET/NET scams, UPSC controversies, railway safety, and the Agniveer scheme. The Congress also wants discussions on Centre-state relations and the economy.
Ramesh said, "Gogoi called for discussion on governance issues relating to NEET/NET scams, UPSC controversies, worsening railway safety and Agniveer."
INDIA bloc plans to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government on these topics during the Budget Session.
