In a major jolt to opposition Samajwadi Party (SP), ruling BSP today swept the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council biennial elections bagging 15 of the 36 seats that went to polls. Out of 16 results declared till noon, only one seat has gone to Congress. Interestingly, BSP did not hold any of the seats that went to polls on January 7. Counting in three other seats will be taken up tomorrow as per an Election Commission directive. In a setback to Congress in the bastion of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BSP won from Sultanpur-Amethi seat. Congress scored its lone victory in Rae Bareli, represented in the Lok Sabha by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The seats won by BSP are: Moradabad-Bijnore, Badaun, Sitapur, Hardoi, Gonda, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Barabanki, Lucknow-Unnao, Azamgarh, Sultanpur-Amethi, Balia, Farukhabad, Basti and Kanpur-Fatehpur.
