The mobile phone services of state-owned telecom operator BSNL were disrupted for an hour following a technical snag in Chandigarh today."The problem arose in the mobile services due to snapping of optical fibre cable that also affected about a dozen base tower stations (BTS) at certain areas in Chandigarh including Sectors 17 and 34," a senior official of BSNL said. The problem occured at about 11.20am and the services remained disrupted till 12.25am.Although subscribers complained of lack of network coverage for a little over an hour, the authorities maintained that the mobile services were restored within half an hour."I had to make an urgent STD call but when I tried to, at around 11.30am, there was no network. Initially, I thought there was some problem in my handset but when I enquired from a few BSNL users in sector 17 ... they also complained of lack of network coverage," complained a BSNL mobile services user in Chandigarah.BSNL has over one lakh mobile subscribers in Chandigarh. However, services of users served by the affected BTSs, located at different places in Chandigarh, were only disrupted.
