Hotelier Parbat Singh, a convict in the British woman rape case who was at large after obtaining bail, was arrested in Bapi town near the Gujarat-Maharashtra border, a top police officer said.

Singh, arrested last night, was brought to Udaipur and produced in a court which remanded him to judicial custody, SP (Udaipur) Sanjaib Kumar Narzary told PTI here by telephone.

Early this year, the Supreme Court directed the Rajasthan Police to arrest Parbat who was on bail.

In 2008, a fast track court awarded life imprisonment to the hotelier after convicting him of raping a British woman, said to a journalist, in Udaipur in December 2007.

Parbat moved the Rajasthan High Court which granted him bail.

The victim approached the Supreme Court which set aside High Court's order to grant bail to Parbat Singh.

The apex court also directed the police to arrest Parbat immediately.
