The courage and fitness of a national level hockey player led to the arrest of a snatcher in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area, the police said on Monday. The incident took place on January 20, when three SPM College students were on their way to Peeragarhi in a bus. Two boys snatched the mobile phone of one of the girls at the Madipur bus stand.

Without hesitating for even a moment, Ritu Bhoraiya, a national level hockey player, chased the miscreants and managed to catch hold of one of them, identified as Dalchand aka Sunny, 19, a resident of Bakkar Wala village.

“I have represented Haryana and Delhi in hockey tournaments. My fitness level as a player came in handy and I managed to catch one of them,” Ritu said. The braveheart added that it was the first time she faced such a situation, but she would be ready to help again, if such a situation arises.

Meanwhile, a patrolling party led by Constable Siyaram reached the spot and arrested Dalchand. The mobile phone was recovered from his possession. He confessed to the crime, and a case was registered at the Punjabi Bagh police station. The accused had been arrested once before, in May, 2016, in a case of snatching registered at the Ranhola police station.
