Bofors: Lawyer questions solicitor genera defending govt
Lawyer Ajay Agrawal asked SC whether SG Gopal Subramanium, who had defended another accused in the case, the late Win Chadha, could appear for the government.
The Bofors controversy returned to haunt the government on Thursday when the Supreme Court began hearing a plea by lawyer Ajay Agrawal to summon the key accused, Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, to face court proceedings.Agarwal asked SC whether solicitor general (SG) Gopal Subramanium, who had defended another accused in the case, the late Win Chadha, could appear for the government. He said SG couldn’t appear for the government that’s opposed to his contention against Quattrocchi and the Hinduja brothers.However, SG opposed Agrawal’s stand, saying Chadha had died almost a decade ago. “I can’t meet a client who died almost a decade ago. He has left for heaven,” Subramanium said.
