Blame game begins after Air India flight hits aerobridge at Mumbai's CST airport
The airline and MIAL are blaming each other.
Around 200 passengers on board Air India AI 922 (Riyadh-Mumbai) had a narrow escape on Friday, after the aircraft collided with an aero bridge at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport . The collision resulted in some major dents in the engine of the aircraft. No passengers were injured in the incident.
However, the airline and MIAL, the operator of the airport, are blaming each other for the incident. The airline, on its part, blamed Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL)'s ground staff for the accident. An Air India source said, “While parking the aircraft at the arrival bay the guidance system of MIAL displayed wrong information. Due to this wrong information shown which is not compatible with this model of aircraft, the left engine of the aircraft got into contact with parked aero bridge. The aircraft is now moved to the hanger.”
A MIAL official, on the other hand, denied the allegation and claimed that it had nothing to do with the guidance system of MIAL. “The aircraft, in this case, was being marshalled/guided by Air India staff.”
A MIAL spokesperson said that the operations were not affected.
