The Bharatiya Janata Party Saturday withdrew its invite to the US consul general in Mumbai for its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi rally to protest the treatment of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade.

"We have suo motu rescinded the invite to the US consul general as a mark of protest against the humiliation of Devyani Khobragade," BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy told IANS.

He said as many 141 informal invites were sent to various consulates for Modi's event by the party's Maharashtra unit.
