The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested against the Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday (April 8) for not fulfilling its promise of purchasing wheat at Rs 2,612 per quintal in the city and also for misleading farmers.
The protest was staged outside the residence of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Hindustan Times reported.
Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta took a jab at AAP and called them anti-farmers.
“Kejriwal had promised free power and said it will purchase farm produce at a price that is one-and-a-half times more than MSP . He had said that his government will buy wheat at ₹2,612 per quintal. But the government has not even opened a single centre for it. They are also not cooperating with FCI, which is now buying wheat in Delhi on its own,” Gupta was quoted as saying by HT.
The Delhi BJP chief also demanded that the Delhi government should either fulfuil their promises or Gopal Rai should apologise to the farmers.
On Wednesday (April 7), AAP leader Gopal Rai had claimed that counters for procurement of wheat at Delhi’s grain markets at the minimum support price (MSP) have not been opened yet by the Food corporation of India (FCI).
The FCI Delhi hit out at AAP, calling its claims as “baseless”.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi assembly, also said that if the need arises, he, along with other party workers, will protest outside Gopal Rai’s house as well to support farmers’ issues.
“We are standing in complete solidarity with the farmers. The Delhi government has not opened any centres so far to buy wheat. The government does not want any buying to take place at MSP. The Central government agency, which has opened its centres here, is buying wheat at the rate of ₹1,975 per quintal. If the Kejriwal government wants, it can pay the remaining ₹800 per quintal to farmers,” he was quoted as saying by HT.
