BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday requested Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to admit a privilege motion against Union home minister P Chidambaram.

Sinha told the Speaker that Chidambaram had “violated” the norms of Parliament by speaking outside Parliament on being accused by the BJP of “improper conduct”.

According to the BJP leader, Chidambaram accused by the BJP of “favouring” a former client and city-based hotelier SP Gupta, “knew” that the issue had been raised in both houses of Parliament on last Thursday and Friday.

Sinha told the Speaker that while Chidambaram “did not” explain his position on the allegations inside Parliament, “he talked to reporters” at his office on Friday evening.

The Speaker was yet to give her ruling on Sinha’s request at the end of the day.

According to reports from agencies, slogan-shouting BJP MPs disrupted proceedings in the Rajya Sabha demanding Chidambaram’s resignation.

The House witnessed three adjournments since question hour before PJ Kurien, who was in the Chair, adjourned it for the day at 3 pm.
