BJP today kicked up a controversy over the increase in assets of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati by Rs 36 crore in the past three years and demanded a probe into sources of her income.    "This is very painful for democracy that suddenly someone's assets have risen to over Rs 88 crore from Rs 52 crore," BJP chief spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.    He was commenting on the BSP supremo declaring her assets in an affidavit submitted by her while filing nomination papers in Lucknow for next month's Legislative Council polls."From where this money is coming? Who is giving (her) gifts? What is the status of those giving (her) gifts? These should be probed. This is very unfortunate for democracy," he said.
