Surya said some miscreants vandalised the holy place in Nava Brindavana and that a similar incident had happened a few months ago. He demanded action against the accused.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi told the House that the matter is of very serious concern and it had hurt feelings of millions of devotees.

The government will bring it to the notice of the ministry concerned and ensure that action is taken, he said.

The young Bengaluru South MP thanked the minister and asked for CCTV cameras at the site for better security. "Thank you Shri @JoshiPralhad for assuring action. We should not only punish culprits who desecrated Moola Brundavana of Vyasaraja Swami in Hampi but MUST protect our heritage sites from further damage. I urge govt to explore options like CCTVs for better security," he tweeted, along with his speech in the Parliament on the issue.

Earlier, Surya shared images of the vandalised site on Twitter.

"Deeply hurt to know that 15th-century Brundavana of Saint Vyasaraja Swamy, Rajaguru of Vijayanagara Emperor Krishnadevaraya - was desecrated & destroyed in Hampi. Such destruction happened 5 centuries ago by Bahamani Sultans!" he said.

He also shared a video of the site.

Hampi is a Unesco world heritage site.
