The alleged incident occurred on Saturday when Singh, MP from Moradabad, went to inspect the site ahead of the CM's wheelchair distribution programme in Ratupura on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Moradabad Manoj Tewari said that a complaint was lodged by the ALIMCO general manager (production) Ashok SN in Thakurduara police station. "We have started an inquiry," he said

Asked about the incident, the MP remained unapologetic and said he had no other option as the official was risking the life of those who would have participated in the event.

"Low grade material was used to make the chief minister's stage. All the materials were not as per norms," he claimed.

"When I tried to step onto the stage, my foot went right through the wooden stairs. At the helipad too, it was the same," he added.

Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a PSU, was organising the programme. Officials said Rs 10 lakh were allocated to the company for the event.
