The BJP today continued its tirade against the opposition Congress in Karnataka for taking out a 'Padayatra' against the state government's alleged failures by dubbing it as a "political drama for survival".Former party president Rajnath Singh, who inaugurated the BJP's Jana Jagruthi rally, the second in the series of four rallies planned to counter the Congress' 'Bellary chalo' padayatra, slammed the Congress activists for indulging in demonstrations like dancing during their yatra."The Congress has demolished the sanctity attached to the padayatra," Singh said.He flayed the UPA government for its "failure" to check price rise which, he said, has adversely affected the common man's life.Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa cautioned the Congress against any attempt to "vitiate" the law and order situation with their provocative speeches and asserted that his government was capable of handling such situations.Yeddyurappa listed his government's achievements in the last two years and exuded optimism that the BJP would win at least 150 seats in the next assembly election on the basis of its performance.Yeddyurappa welcomed the statement by former chief minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy who denounced the protest by Congress workers who handcuffed a person, a look-alike of health minister B Sreeramulu, during its padayatra to highlight the issue of illegal mining.State unit BJP president KS Eswarappa reiterated that there was no question of accepting the opposition demand for a CBI probe into illegal mining and export of iron ore, currently being investigated by Lokayukta. The police resorted to lathicharge when a section of the gathering gatecrashed into the adjacent venue where lunch was being served in the midst of the rally. Eswarappa and others appealed to police not to cane the people. The BJP is holding its third rally in Mysore on August 12 and fourth in Bellary, the home turf of Reddy brothers --ministers Janardhana and Karunakara, facing allegations of illegal mining -- on August 20.Yeddyurappa told reporters that a cabinet meeting would be held here on August 23. The BJP has held two such meetings in this backward region after it came to power.
