The BJP's central election committee has declared Rongnai Maham as the official candidate for the bye-election to the Kanubari Assembly constituency in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The decision was taken by the CEC during a meeting convened in New Delhi yesterday presided over by party chief Amit Shah, a party communique said here today.
The bye-election scheduled for October 15 was necessitated by the death of sitting MLA Newlai Tingkhatra before declaration of results of the April 19 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Tingkhatra had won the seat posthumously.
