MORADABAD: A local BJP activist was shot dead by unidentified persons here on Sunday, police said.

The assailants fired on Sarjeet Singh Chauhan, the PRO of former MP Raja Chandravijay Singh, when he was coming out of his home, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prem Prasad said.

He died on the spot, the SSP said.

Police were suspecting the role of BJP member Ramvir Singh, who contested the recent Assembly elections, behind the murder.

Following Chauhan's murder, hundreds of his supporters blocked the NH-24 for more than an hour, leading to traffic jam. However, they dispersed after senior police officials assured them action against the culprits involved in the crime.
