Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday announced that the newly elected BJP MLAs of Tripura have elected Bipal Kumar Deb as the leader of the legislative party. As a balancing act, Jishnu Deb Burman, has been named as deputy CM by BJP.

Deb is known to be an RSS volunteer, who was mentored by none other than KN Govindacharya. Deb was once a trained gym instructor, who came to Delhi for higher education. Before moving to Tripura in 2016, Deb worked as assistant to Ganesh Singh, who is the BJP’s MP from Satna. His wife works a deputy manager at the State Bank of India. They have two children. Deb as party president took on Manik Sarkar's government repeatedly and generated traction on ground, thus ensuring his top place in Tripura BJP hierarchy. 

Reacting to being named as Deputy CM, Jishnu Deb Burman said,

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dubbed the BJP's win over the Left in Tripura a "victory of ideology" and said the party needs to work hard to maintain its winning electoral streak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters.

Modi was addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, where he was greeted with the slogan, 'Jeet hamari jari hai, ab Karnataka ki bari hai' (Our winning run continues, now is the turn of Karnataka). The prime minister spoke about the BJP's impressive performance in the the three northeast states of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghayala.
