Bill to prevent religious conversion likely to be introduced in next Parliament session: Sources

PM Modi-led NDA government is likely to bring an anti-conversion bill in the next Parliament session, according to sources. 

As per sources, the bill will prevent the practice of any kind of religious conversion. Reports suggest that the government is preparing to introduce the bill in the next session of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the recently concluded Parliament session was one of the most productive session as it passed as many as 30 bills, creating a record for the number of bills passed in a single session after the constitution of a new Lok Sabha.

In a release issued by Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, it said the session has been historic in many ways as legislations relating to almost all walks of socio and economic activities have been passed.

"Thirty bills have been passed by both the Houses of Parliament in this session which is a record in single first/effective session after the constitution of new Lok Sabha," the release said. 

Noting that the session has seen "extraordinary output", the release said 40 Bills (33 in Lok Sabha and 7 in Rajya Sabha) were introduced. Thirty-five bills were passed by Lok Sabha and 32 by Rajya Sabha.

The productivity of Lok Sabha was about 137 percent and that of Rajya Sabha about 103 percent.

One of the most important businesses transacted in the just-concluded Parliament session was the repealing of provisions related to Article 370 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate Union Territories — J&K as one and Ladakh as another UT — to ensure better administration and to curb terrorism.

Another bill which was passed in the recently concluded Parliament session was the Triple Talaq Bill.
