If you are leaving a bank, after withdrawing cash, on a two-wheeler and are stopped by a group of youths asking for direction, beware! The bikers’ gang could be after your money.

Three people were robbed of their money by the bikers’ gang on Wednesday afternoon. The incidents occurred at the same time, between 12:30 and 2:30, in Vastrapur and Navrangpura areas of the city.

The gang targets people who come out of banks and carry cash in their two-wheeler. Ghanshyam Patel, one of the victims, was stopped by two youths and was asked for some address. “It was after a few minutes that he realised that his bag containing Rs1.30 lakh vanished from the dickey of his bike,” a source in the Navrangpura police told DNA.

The modus operandi in all the other thefts was the same. People who come out of banks with their cash are followed by members of the gang. Later, they are stopped, and kept engaged in a conversation while another person steals the cash from the dickey.

A top cop told DNA that this is the same gang which targets people coming out of the bank. “We have increased vigilance in and near city banks, but most of the time the crime occurs at a spot away from the bank,” the cop said.
