In an unfortunate incident, a wedding ceremony in rural Patna which took place two weeks ago set off the biggest infection chain in Bihar, health department officials reported on Tuesday. The groom was running a high fever, and died two days later, with his body cremated without being tested for COVID-19.

As per media reports, more than 100 people tested COVID=19 positive in the last few days, in the Paliganj sub-division of Patna district, located about 55 km from the state capital. Out of the people who tested positive, fifteen were the groom~s relative who spread the deadly virus to others in the area.

The groom was a software engineer based in Gurugram and returned home for his marriage in the last week of May. He started showing symptoms of COVID-19 a few days after the tilak ceremony. On the day of his wedding (June 15), he was running a high fever and wanted the ceremony to be postponed for a later time. But his family members insisted, and made him attend the rituals after making him take paracetamol tablets.
