"This is a shameful and shocking incident happening in a free and democratic India after 67 years of Independence," CPI National Secretary D Raja said.

He said the chief minister has the right to visit any place he wishes to and no one can stop him from doing so. Manjhi had yesterday ordered a probe into the incident a day after he claimed that the temple in Bihar's Madhubani district was washed and purified soon after his visit.

The temple priest has, however, denied it.
