Floods situation in Bihar due to incessant rains since the past four days remained grim across the state. The death toll due to the floods reached 42 on Tuesday, with Bhagalpur and Gaya reporting 10 and six deaths respectively.

Seventeen districts have seen the situation deteriorating with the state receiving 400 mm of rainfall in the last three days. Heavy rains are predicted in six districts in the next 24 hours.

Patna residents witnessed a relief from showers on Tuesday but the lack of proper drainage kept some areas flooded. Food packets, drinking water and milk were distributed to the flood victims. More than 226 community kitchens and 17 relief centres across districts have been set up for flood victims where thousands had queued up to get essential supplies. The police force, postal department, NDRF, SDRF and Air Force have all been roped in for relief and rescue efforts. Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi held a review meeting.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar instructed all ministers and secretaries to set up camps in districts under their charge for three days.

Around seven thousand people were left stranded after the embankment of Koshi river at Maheshpur broke down due to a rise in the water level of the river.
