Bihar floods: 11 dead in deluge; water enters Darbhanga power grid, outage in 14 districts

The flood situation in Bihar is worsening each day as the death toll rose to 11 and nearly 40 lakh people have been affected, according to the state disaster department authority.

The Bihar Government has stated that as many as 38,47,531 people have been affected due to floods in Bihar and 25,116 people at shelter homes.

26 teams of National Disaster Response Force/State Disaster Response Force have been deployed in affected areas, according to the state government.

In Muzaffarpur district, 8,77,138 people have been affected due to floods while in Supaul 81,198 people have been affected so far.

Following incessant rainfall, the waters of Gandaki and Bagmati rivers have entered parts of  Muzaffarpur district. Many houses of people in the district have been submerged underwater.

Moreover, the national power grid located in Dekuli village of Bahadurpur block is ravaged by floodwaters. Therefore, the electric supply has been cut off in 14 districts of Bihar.

The employees and engineers are at the spot, working tirelessly to get things back in order.  

NDRF and SDRF teams are on the spot carrying out rescue and relief efforts. 
 
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the state received an average total rainfall of 22 mm, which was 89 percent in excess of normal. The heaviest downpour was witnessed in flood-hit districts like East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, and Sitamarhi where the volume of rainfall was stated to be more than 300 percent above normal, a news agency reported. 

Indian Air Force helicopters are providing assistance by air-dropping relief materials in affected areas.
