The baby was rushed to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
In a miraculous escape, a seven-month-old baby boy, Abdul Rehman Shahnawaz Shah, survived in the Bhiwandi building collapse on Sunday morning. Two of his family members, however, weren't as fortunate. The baby was rushed to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for primary treatment.
Shah's sister Sophiya (19) died in the incident while his cousin Rohem (10) succumbed to his severe injuries on way to the hospital. "The locals found the baby under the debris in a far-off portion of the building. They were alerted by his cries. he was wrapped in a cloth and given water. He had a few minor injuries on his head, which were treated," said a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) official.
"We were handed over the baby boy as his parents could not be located. Later, his father arrived," he added.
A senior doctor at the Indira Gandhi Memorial hospital said, "The baby is out of danger. We gave him first aid and discharged him. His parents, however, are in grief as they lost two young family members."
Meanwhile, Gaibi Nagar resident Imtiaz Momin Ansari said, "The boy is indeed lucky as the portion of the building in which the family lived collapsed completely. The boy, too, must have come crashing down after the collapse but he survived with minor injuries."
