Slamming the UPA government for the fresh hike in petroleum-products, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) today said the move will hit overburdened farmers.
"The farmers were already in distress due to scarcity of water, poor power supply and low returns from their produce. This hike would further burden farmers due to the exorbitant cost of agricultural inputs incurred on diesel, fertilisers and pesticides," BKU president Mahendra Singh Tikait said at the party headquarter near here.
He said that the government should either raise the minimum prices of agricultural produce or subsidise diesel price for farmers.
The government had yesterday hiked prices of petrol by Rs3.50 a litre and diesel by Rs2 a litre, raised LPG by Rs35 a cylinder and kerosene by Rs3 a litre.
