Sparking a fresh controversy regarding ‘love jihad’, the Bengal unit of VHP has decided to distribute pamphlets about how to avoid falling into 'trap of Muslim men' for Hindu girls.

Come September end, VHP will reach to educational institutes – schools and colleges across the state, especially the girls' schools, and colleges to prevent them from marrying Muslims.

The pamphlet advices Hindu girls and women to be wary of Muslim youth, who are drawing inspiration from Bollywood heroes, trying to lure them in love. VHP alleges that Muslim men are getting paid to do the job. According to VHP, Muslim men will try to lure Hindu girls with expensive gifts, good foods etc. The advisory says in case of such advances, girls must inform VHP and lodge an FIR in the local police station.

The VHP’s advisory also advises married women to wear traditional mangalsutra, sindoor, bangles, and shakha (white bangles of conch-shell) as a proud Hindu.

The advisory says Islam is a political ideology and Muslims are soldiers and Jihad is their modus operandi to capture non-Islamic countries. It says Hindu religion is crying silently owing to the onslaught of love jihad.

According to VHP, some common tropes used by 'Love Jihadis'

1. To act like cinestars

2. To help innocent girls who common from village to city

3. Using Hindu names

4. Using Muslim girls to get in touch with Hindu girls

5.To give lift in motorbikes

6. By getting employed in Hindu houses

7. Using social media

8.Using gift, giving food treat

9.Helping in college project

10. Establishing physical relationship, later blackmailing with explicit pictures

11. Helping in office

12. Helping out kids of married women

13. Using Hindu festivals to enter houses

14. Threaten to commit suicide if the girl doesn't agree

According to VHP, girls who fall prey to Love Jihad are either sold to Middle East countries, or become part of terrorist cell, or conceiving 8 to 10 kids. Only cultural awakening by reading holy scriptures is a way out of this 'problem', according to VHP.

Interestingly, as a counter to Love Jihad, VHP advocates 'Hindu minded Muslim women' to be brought under the fold of Hinduism.

VHP media convenor Sourish Mukherjee said, " End of September, we are going to reach out to schools and colleges and make young girls address the issue of love jihad. We will later go door to door to distribute our campaigns. Since VHP is a socio-religious organisation, we must rise to protect Hindu women".

Expectedly, the Left and TMC have condemned this plan from VHP.  CPM leader Fuad Halim said, " VHP instead of addressing real issues like poverty, unemployment has stooped down to the level of something like this. They are giving lessons on 'love jihad' instead of addressing real issues."

TMC leader and state Minister Firhad Hakim has dubbed it as 'communal politics'. He alleged VHP of trying to create a rift between Hindus and Muslims. He predicted that VHP would later 'create a rift between castes of Hindus.' Firhad Hakim said that Bengal government 'will come down heavily on this and will never allow something like this'.
