On Thursday, the West Bengal BJP moved the Supreme Court alleging TMC workers were unleashing violence to stop BJP candidates from filing nominations for upcoming Panchayat polls, reported PTI.
The Chief Justice of India has reportedly agreed to hear the PIL tomorrow.
“Our legal cell has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court for a fair and violence-free panchayat election in Bengal,” state BJP president Dilip Ghosh said on Wednesday.
The leader said, “Mamata had said she wanted an Opposition-free election and that is why her party leaders have unleashed violence on the Opposition. She tweets on every occasion, why is she quiet now?”
A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker died on Wednesday after allegedly being thrashed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) cadres in West Bengal's Bankura district. The deceased, identified as Ajit Murmu was killed outside the office of the block development officer in Ranibandh area.
The BJP alleged that the deceased was their nominee for upcoming panchayat elections from the area and blamed TMC for the attack.
However, the police have not confirmed the identity of the attackers as yet.
BJP MP and Union Minister Babul Supriyo wrote on Twitter: “TMC goons' open spilling of wrath and violence all over Bengal on candidature filing day for #BengalPanchayatPoll2018, has resulted in brutal murder of Ajit Murmu, BJP's Panchayat candidate from Bankura. My heart goes out to his family. May they find strength to endure this loss.”
42-year-old Ajit Murmu was the editor of Ranibandh Mandal and BJP’s candidate for the upcoming panchayat polls. BJP allege that their candidate was attacked outside the BDO office. He was taken to a local hospital before being shifted to Bankura Sammilani Hospital.
