CPI (M) patriarch Jyoti Basu, who was yesterday admitted to a city hospital after falling unconscious for a brief period at his residence, is doing well, though he is still in the intensive care unit, doctors attending on him said today.

"Mr Basu is doing well. His condition is now stable. He had a good sleep last night and he is being given light food," Debashish Sharma, chief medical superintendent of AMRI hospital in Salt Lake where he was admitted, said.

He said that a medical board formed for treating Basu has decided to perform a CT scan on him today.

Basu, who turned 96 on July 8, had also complained of stomach pain before being hospitalised, party sources said.
