Two terrorists were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore, the Army said on Thursday.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Brath Kalan area of Sopore in Baramulla district on Wednesday evening following information about presence of terrorists there, an Army official said. 

He said the operation turned into an encounter after terrorists opened fire on security forces.

Two terrorists have been killed, the official said, adding the operation was still in progress.

The troops of 179 Battalion of CRPF, Special Operation Group (SOG), 22 RR, CRPF Range Quick Action Team, Baramulla, carried out the operation.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain ultras was being ascertained, he added.
