A 45-year-old auto driver was stabbed to death allegedly by his neighbour in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar area, the police said today.

The incident occurred around 10 pm yesterday when Lal Singh Tanwar, a resident of Bapu colony in Kunhari area, was was returning home, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ramesh Chand Bhargav of Vigyan Nagar Police Station said.

He was stopped under a bridge in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar and stabbed after a spat. He was rushed to Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS) hospital by passersby but was declared dead by doctors, the SI said.

According to the deceased's son, he had an enmity with one of his neighbours, the SI added.

A case of murder was lodged against the neighbour, Bhupendra Singh, who has been on the run since the stabbing, Bhargav said.

Police teams have formed to nab him, he added.

The body was handed over to the family this morning after post-mortem, he added.
