A corporator of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Aurangabad was beaten up on Friday by Shiv Sena and BJP corporators after he opposed the motion of paying respects to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee after his death on Thursday.

Shiv Sena corporator Raju Vaidya in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra moved a motion to pay tribute to Bharat Ratna and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee after he passed away on August 16 at AIIMS in New Delhi following a prolonged illness. AIMIM corporator Syed Matin oppose the motion which did not go well with the rest of the Shiv Sena corporators, reports Marathi newspaper Saamna.

Things quickly escalated and combined BJP corporators on the floor, Shiv Sena corporators beat up Matin. Police had to intervene and save Matin from the wrath of an angry mob on the house floor that was throwing the man into chairs and desks. The video shows Matin thrashed and walk out of the room with hands on his head, possibly trending to a head injury.

After the incident, AIMIM supporters vandalised the car of a BJP leader Bhaurao Deshmukh in Aurangabad. His driver was pulled out of the car and was beaten up. Police intervened and saved the driver. After the incident, security was reportedly increased outside the municipal corporation.
