In Chhattisgarh, Congress merely managed to get a 2.9% increase in vote share in this Assembly polls vis-à-vis the 2013 state polls. The Congress routed BJP after getting 68 seats. The grand old party got 43.2% votes in the 2018 elections, up from 40.3% in the 2013 state polls and 38.37% in the 2014 general elections, where the party won only one out of the 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Contrary to that, BJP got 8.1% vote share, less compared to what it got in the 2013 Assembly polls. The vote share dipped from 41% in 2013 to 32.9% now. In 2014 general elections, the party had got nearly 49% vote and 10 out of the 11 Lok Sabha seats. With an 8.1% dip in the vote share, the BJP's tally came down to 15 in this Assembly polls from 49 in 2013.
The vote share analysis shows that some smaller parties and Independents have managed to get more votes. The Mayawati-led BSP had got 4.3% in 2013, its alliance with former chief minister Ajit Jogi's party has now got about 10.7% votes. Independents have also improved their performance from 5.3% to 6.3%.
In 2013, BJP won 49 seats, Congress had bagged 39 seats and BSP and Independent got one seat each respectively.
Chhattisgarh voted in two phases on Nov 12 and Nov 20. The first phase, where 18 constituencies went to vote, saw a voter turnout of 76.35% . The second phase, where the remaining 72 constituencies went to vote, saw a voter turnout of 76.34%.
