Two NDFB (Songbijit) militants were neutralised in an encounter with a joint team of state police and Army in the deep jungles of Assam's Kokrajhar district along Indo-Bhutan border on Saturday.

On a tip-off, Assam Police personnel with troops of Rajput Regiment launched an operation inside Kochugaon reserve forest at Oksiguri area in the wee hours, Additional Director General of Police L R Bishnoi told reporters here.

A group of four insurgents exchanged fire with the security team and two of the militants were killed on the spot, Bishnoi said.

An AK-56 rifle with 21 rounds of live ammunition, one 7.6 mm pistol with one magazine containing three rounds live ammunition, cash worth Rs 6,000 in new Rs 2,000 notes, four bicycles and some ration items were seized, he said.

The slain extremists were identified and search is on to track the other two absconding rebels, police added.
