Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu will have to spend more days in jail as the Rajasthan High Court has deferred his bail plea till October 1. Now, the court will hear his bail plea again after Asaram’s judicial custody ends on September 30.
Asaram’s defence counsel, senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani had filed the bail plea in the High Court earlier this week.
With this, Asaram’s case diary was also submitted in the court after it was demanded by the state’s highest judicial body.
After the hearing of the plea got over on Wednesday, the defence council demanded additional time for presenting more evidence to prove that the girl (victim) was mentally challenged. After defence’s plea, the court deferred the hearing till October 1.
During the hearing the defence told court that Asaram is being dragged in a false rape case and the girl who alleged being sexual assaulted by the 72-year-old guru is mentally challenged and is suffering from a chronic disease which draws a woman to men.
Notably, the District and Sessions Court on September 11 had turned down Asaram’s bail plea in the minor’s sexual assault case.
Asaram was sent in the judicial custody for 14 days by the district and sessions court. Earlier, the court had remanded him for one day on September 1 after which he was arrested from his Indore ashram.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons in Jodhpur on Wednesday, Asaram’s son Narayan Sai said, “My father is clean and he has committed no crime. It is a pre-planned conspiracy hatched to trap my innocent father.”
