Ahead of polls in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, a Joint Security Group of Army and police on Monday took stock of prevailing security situation in the districts. A Joint Security Group conference was organised at the Romeo Force Headquarters to take stock of the prevailing situation in the area and chalk out a joint strategy to keep it free from any untoward incidents in view of forthcoming assembly elections, Defence Spokesman said here.

The meeting chaired by Major General P S Rajeshwar, General Officer Commanding, Romeo Force, was attended by representatives of civil administration, police, security and intelligence agencies. Underlining the need to overcome contemporary challenges and enhance confidence among people, Rajeshwar appreciated the high levels of synergy in operations exhibited by all agencies in recent times.

The GOC further emphasised the need to be vigilant, alive and responsive to the developing situation to ensure a peaceful and conducive environment. SSP Rajouri briefed on the prevailing internal security situation and steps initiated to ensure communal harmony in the region.

Various measures to be adopted to keep the area peaceful and free of any terror-related incidents were discussed during the meeting, the spokesman said.
