Sources say that former chief minister Arjun Munda is the front runner among the contenders to be the successor of Shibu Soren. Munda is also the BJP's key tribal face.

However, in the last assembly elections, Munda failed to lead the party to victory. Shibu Soren's son Hemant Soren is likely to get the deputy chief minister's post as a part of the deal.

It all began with Shibu Soren’s voting in favour of the UPA government during the cut motion brought by the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the BJP withdrew its support to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) government in Jharkhand.

The BJP had made it clear that it would neither forgive nor forget the JMM leader’s double-crossing act.

Rajya Sabha member and son of Shibhu Soren, Hemant Soren, had claimed the cross-voting happened by mistake due to some confusion during the voting.
