Who will win the battle for Arambagh?

Final results have come and TMC's Aparupa Poddar has just about managed to hold on to Arambagh. She has won against BJP's Tapan Roy by 1142 votes, which is the thinnest victory margin in the state in this Lok Sabha election.
At 8.20 PM in the evening, TMC's Aparupa Poddar is merely leading by 2209 votes against BJP candidate. Earlier Aparupa was ahead by a massive margin.

Arambagh Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal is expected to witness a straight fight between CPI(M) and TMC. Sitting TMC MP Aparupa Poddar is in the fray and will be contesting against Sakti Mohan Malik of CPI(M). Malk won the seat in 2009 but lost to Poddar by 3.47 lakh votes in 2014. BJP candidate Tapan Roy and Congress' Jyoti Das are also contesting from this SC- reserved seat. Arambagh lok sabha constituency located mainly in the Hooghly district of the seat became SC- reserved from open category seat after 2008 delimitation.
It has been one of Left's bastion for very long till Aparupa won in 2014. Anil Basu of CPI(M) won the seat seven times in a row from 1984 to 2004. In 2004, he won by a margin of 592, 502 which is still a state record. In total, CPI(M) has won the seat 10 times, Forward Block one time and TMC one time. Currently, though, TMC has a strong presence in South Bengal and is expected to win Arambagh comfortably. Aparupa Poddar, who is a first time MP is under CBI scanner over the Narada sting case where she was allegedly seen taking money. Poddar created flutter by declaring in the poll affidavit that she and her husband TMC leader Shakir Ali has only Rs 15 as cash in hand!
Aparupa earned praise as one of the top MPs in spending MPLAD fund. She came fifth in the list of 42 MPS. According to PTI, "The amount available with interest in MPLAD was around Rs 28.55 crore and Poddar had recommended around Rs 35.88 crore of which Rs 28.25 crore was sanctioned. Around Rs 26.06 crore was spent and the percentage of utilization of released funds stood at 102.24 per cent." The assembly segments under Arambagh are Haripal, Tarakeswar, Pursurah, Arambag (SC), Goghat (SC), Khanakul and Chandrakona. Arambagh votes during the fifth phase on 6th May. Elections for 42 seats in West Bengal are taking place in seven phases. In 2014, TMC got 34, Congress 4 and BJP and CPI(M) won two seats each in the state.
