President Pranab Mukherjee said: “Technology has brought major changes in lives of all persons. At the outset I will congratulate, Essel group for its successful 90-year journey. I appreciate the phrase Young at 90. Remain young at 100, and remain young forever. Jai Hind.”
A host of dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee graced the mega event at Indira Gandhi stadium. Speaking at the event, President Pranab Mukherjee said it is important for media to maintain objectivity and truthfulness in news, while lamenting that anti-establishment stance has become a fashion to some extent.
While facts and news remain one, views may be different, he said, adding, "It is important to maintain objectivity and truthfulness in news".
"News is one, views may be different, but truthfulness and accuracy of the news is expected. News may differ, but not the facts. Today, to my mind, it's not a very healthy development (that) to be anti-establishment, to some extent, is fashion of the day," Mukherjee said.
He further asked media to think if they are making a positive contribution to the society by simply being anti- establishment. "Although technology always has a disruptive impact but if society is ready to accept challenges, it can utilise it well," Mukherjee said
