Aonglenden assembly bye-poll held in Nagaland
The bye-poll was necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Nungshizenba Longkumer last year.
The bye-election to Aonglenden assembly constituency, from where former chief minister S C Jamir is seeking re-entry into Nagaland politics, passed off peacefully registering about 88% turnout. After staying away from the state for nearly a decade due to the gubernatorial assignments in Goa and Maharashtra, octogenarian Jamir is fighting as a Congress candidate against the ruling Nagaland People's Front aspirant Toshikopba Longkumer. Aonglenden seat returned Jamir, the longest serving chief minister in the state, to the Nagaland assembly a number of times in the past. The bye-poll was necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Nungshizenba Longkumer last year.
