NEW DELHI: A committee set up by Human Resource Development Ministry to suggest measures to prevent ragging in educational institutions will undertake a countrywide tour seeking public opinion on the issue.

The committee, headed by former CBI Director RK Raghavan, will interact with a cross-section of people on all aspects of ragging during a visit to Guwahati on Monday. The six-member committee would also visit other places.

The committee was constituted the Supreme Court which had decided go into the menace of ragging while approving implementation of suggestions given by the JM Lyngdoh Committee on the conduct of student union elections in universities and affiliated colleges in November last year.

The panel has invited suggestions from the public on methods to prevent ragging, possible action to be taken against persons indulging in ragging as also against college and university authorities in the event of ragging.

It would also examine and consider all aspects relating to the conduct of students indulged in ragging, such as aspects affecting the academic atmosphere in the educational institutions.
