Andhra Pradesh govt stops operation of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University; four lakh students in jeopardy
It is alleged that there is no co-operation between the Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Central governments.
The Dr BR Ambedkar Open University is now no longer functioning as the state government has issued orders to stop its operations in Andhra Pradesh due to complaints.
A report in Deccan Chronicle states that the future of four lakh students is now uncertain as a result. Prof Ch C Prasad, assistant director of the university’s regional coordination centre at Vijayawada, has told the newspaper that the students will lose one year of studies. Prof Prasad has alleged that there is no co-operation between the Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Central governments.
The High Court has however asked the Telangana government to continue running the 92 study centres. The report adds that the HC has also asked the government to pay salaries to the employees of the varsity. The state government had stopped paying salaries.
Students will not be admitted for the coming year and entrance exam results have not been announced. The first, second and third year degree exam results were announced adds the report. Those with arrears will not be able to write the exams now.
