Andhra Cabinet approves High Power Committee report on three capitals

The state cabinet also approved Visakhapatnam as Executive capital, Kurnool as Judicial Capital and Amaravati as the Legislative Capital.

The Andhra Pradesh government approved the "High Power Committee" report during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday amid protests in Amaravati.

Based on the recommendations of the High Power Committee report, key issues like decentralisation of development, farmer's concerns, employee issues, insider trading of Amaravati lands and CRDA amendment have been discussed.

The state cabinet has also decided to increase the compensation being paid to the farmers of the capital region from Rs 2,500 per month to Rs 5,000 per month. The cabinet had also approved the proposal to extend the tenancy limit for fifteen years to the farmers who gave up their lands for the capital city construction and approved for the establishment of the Amaravati Metropolitan Development Authority in the place of CRDA. 

Further, the cabinet agreed to establish over 11,000 Farmer Assistance Centres (Rythu Barosa Kendram) across the State.

The state cabinet also approved the purpose of the three capitals, Visakhapatnam as Executive capital, Kurnool as Judicial Capital and Amaravati as the Legislative Capital. In addition to the decentralisation and CRDA amendment bills, the state government also agreed upon offering better packages to the farmers of Amaravati region.

After an hour-long cabinet meeting, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Speaker Thammineni Seetharam. Chief Minister Reddy, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Chief ship Srikanth Reddy, took part in the BAC along with TDP MLA Atchannaidu.

Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has upped the ante against the ruling YSRCP government on the three capitals issue, both inside and outside the assembly. 

Since morning, various TDP leaders and activists have been taken into custody as prohibitory orders are in effect.

Currently, the three days special assembly session is discussing all the issues.
