The legal aid centre in Sabarmati Jail is no longer being used by the prisoners in Sabarmati Jail -- because the place has become out of bounds for them! The reason is that the legal aid room is located right opposite the Tilak yard of the prison where the room of former jail minister Amit Shah is located.

Most of the jammers in the jail too are reportedly not working, especially after Shah was incarcerated there. Sabarmati Jail is infamous for the use of mobile phones in its premises. Even a common under-trial can easily use a mobile phone, if he wishes to.

Nowadays the prisoners are not allowed to go to the legal cell room, as to venture there they would have to pass through the Tilak yard and the jail administration doesn't want the former minister to get disturbed. Even though he is not in office, Shah gets a lot of visitors, including senior IPS officers and his own family members.

The Modi government has ensured a comfortable stay for Shah, who has two wardens to work for him, as well as adequate stocks of mineral water brought from the canteen. The one thing that the former minister might be regretting is that when he was the jail minister, a toilet was not constructed in the Tilak yard!

Sources say that one has to walk a while to reach the nearest toilet, which is located outside the yard. The size of the yard is around 40 feet by 14 feet and has four fans inside it. Even though Shah will be missing his air conditioned office and house, he should be happy with four fans!

There is one round table, and six chairs in the room. A sofa set, a television and few antique furniture are housed there.
