West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday after almost a year of exchange of marked controversial remarks between the two leaders.

The meeting gains added significance as the announcement of the meeting comes at a time when CBI is enhancing pressure on WB state administration to know Kolkata's former police commissioner Rajeev Kumar's whereabouts and seems desperate to have him in their custody.

Banerjee is expected to talk to the Prime Minister regarding the state's economic condition. According to reports, a number of Centre-sanctioned developmental projects have hit stagnation in West Bengal due to lack of funds. State secretariat sources said that earlier, the central government would provide 90% of the allocated funds for the Centre-sanctioned projects, while the remaining 10% were to be provided by the state. However, recently the Centre has reduced its share to 40%, leading to increased financial pressure on the state which now has to provide 60% of the allocated funds.

Sources added that the state is about to face increased financial pressure of an additional Rs 10,000 crores next year since Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has recently announced a salary hike for state government employees, following the Sixth Pay Commission's recommendations.

Before this, the West Bengal government had asked for a fiscal package from the central government four times but has not been granted so. This time, too, Banerjee is expected to urge for the same. She is also expected to lodge a request to the Centre regarding the change in the state's name.

The Opposition, however, has suspected the CBI-Rajeev Kumar fiasco as one of the agendas on the Chief Minister's plate.
