In the wake of its defeat in the recent assembly elections, its brickbats all around in the Punjab Congress. Senior leaders have been hurling accusations and insinuations against one another to pin the blame for the party’s defeat at the hustings.Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh has been ducking allegations that he was solely responsible for the party’s humiliation. In a statement on Monday, he said all senior leaders failed to deliver in their respective regions .

Former Congress Legislative Party leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal called Amarinder a “liar, a cheat and an irresponsible leader,” who, she said, was exclusively responsible for making the Congress lick the dust.

Bhattal questioned Amarinder’s integrity, saying, “There are reports that a sum of Rs300-Rs500cr was received towards party funds. He should voluntarily disclose as to where did that money go.”

Amarinder, in his counter attack, said Bhattal was always “an Akali mole in the Congress”. “She has a habit of speaking the Akali language to criticise the party leaders,” he said.

Amarinder listed, in a report, more than a dozen senior leaders who had failed to campaign diligently.
