All India Pre-Medical Test row: SC agrees to extend time for re-examinations; orders CBSE to declare results by August 16

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to extend time for CBSE to conduct All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT). It has also directed the CBSE to announce the results by August 16, 2015.

They have allowed CBSE an extension, but the overall extension, including declaration of results is August 16. This includes holding of exams and declaration of results. The CBSE had wanted four months, but that has been disallowed by the Court as the honourable Court has made an observation that they are aware of the new academic session to commence at the right time,” the petitioner advocate, Pushp Gupta told mediapersons. “There is a particular limit for the academic session to begin, they gave three dates for the round of counselling to be done so that the academic session for 2015-16 for the MBBS and BDS students is notdelayed to a stage wherein they are squeezed with less time do their course,” she added.

On June 15, the SC had scrapped the AIPMT 2015 and had ordered rthe CBSE to e-conduct examinations in four weeks.

The apex court had directed the re-examination in view of large-scale cheating in the test with students getting answers in the examination hall at many places.

CBSE, had earlier said,  "6.3 lakh students cannot be made to take the exam afresh when only 44 students have been found involved in taking benefits through unfair means."

A bench of justices R K Agrawal and A M Sapre decided to take up the petition of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) after Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar mentioned the matter before it.

On Thursday the SC had heard a petition by CBSE that it was impossible to conduct the re-examinations within four weeks.

Kumar told the apex court that it is impossible to re-conduct the exam within the time frame decided by the Supreme Court.

He said that the board (CBSE) was overburdened with work of conducting seven exams simultaneously and it needed at least three months time to conduct the exam afresh.
