The All-India Forward Bloc (FB) has written to the governors of all states with an appeal to declare Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary, which falls on January 23, as Deshprem Divas.

Earlier, FB general secretary Debabrata Biswas had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the same request. This was subsequently followed by party national secretary G Debrajan writing to governors of all states, saying that it was necessary to write to all heads of states regarding the issue.

Memorandums have been submitted to governors Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Devrajan also said that in 2014, during the campaign to the general elections, top BJP leaders including Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh had said that after they come to power, January 23 would be declared as Deshprem Divas but nearly the next general elections had arrived and nothing had been done about it.

Forward Bloc will also put up seminars, rallies and meetings across the country to spread awareness among people about renaming January 23 as Deshprem Divas.

The Left Front, on the other hand had said that looking at the present condition of West Bengal, Netaji’s birthday and Republic Day on January 23 and 26, respectively, would be celebrated with an aim to restore communal harmony and against any attempt of divisive politics.
